SUPER FOODS. SUPER CARE. SUPER SKIN.

What you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body to promote smooth, even-toned and healthy looking skin.

Remember those days when we were told “don’t eat junk food, chocolate, etc. Your skin will break out”. Well, there is some truth to this advice. The same is true when choosing personal care products.

The skin (the largest organ of the body) is in a constant state of renewal as it matures; out with the old an in with the (cell) renewal. Older or dry, dead skin cells shed themselves or with a little help from a gentle body exfoliator so new cells can be at the forefront, promoting more radiant and healthier-looking skin.

We can help this process by following a healthy nutrition plan, nourishing the body from the inside out. We all know this is not easy (mmm, ice cream), however making better choices via a daily regimen of antioxidant-filled, colorful fruits and veggies (carrots, kale, papaya, spinach) and healthy fats (fish, like salmon and certain nuts, like almonds and hazelnuts) will give the body nutrients needed including Vitamins C and E, zinc, selenium and more.

Other foods high in nutritional value are:

  • Watermelon – low in sugar, high in water than can help with water retention
  • Tomatoes – rich in lycopene, a potent antioxidant that helps protect skin from UV damage
  • Avocados – high in phytonutrients (natural compounds) as well as Vitamins A, D and E
  • Eggs – a protein high in amino acids that help with natural collagen production
  • Berries – the more vibrant, the higher the antioxidant content that can shield skin from free radicals
  • Dark Chocolate (you had me at chocolate) – has a lower sugar content and contains flavanols, another potent and protective antioxidant

A healthy nutritional plan promotes a healthy digestive system and a healthy digestive system promotes an overall feeling of wellness.  Ingesting high fat, heavy sugar-based and processed foods slow down the renewal process as well as the digestive system. You feel as sluggish as your system and this internal stress can manifest on your skin with breakouts, weight gain, dark circles under the eyes, dull face and body skin and Keratosis Pilaris (dead skin cells plugging hair follicles) can appear on the body and even on your scalp.

Nourishing your skin on the outside is as vital as nourishing it internally. Keep it hydrated by keeping it clean with gentle cleansers, exfoliators and moisturizers. Avoid products that are high in sulfates and fragrances, opting for those formulated with natural ingredients like fruit extracts and oils.  Dry brushing and/or exfoliating will rid skin of dead surface skin which can dull its appearance. Follow with a rich moisturizer right after your bath or shower while skin is still damp.

Skinrefit. Exfoliating Body Lotion is specially formulated to help with dry skin and Keratosis Pilaris. A dual-action AHA/BHA exfoliator and body lotion, it will smooth skin as it rids it of dead skin. Elderberry Fruit Extract and Rosehip Fruit Oil help smooth, soothe and even skin tone.
